A Deck House - What is It?

It all began with an idea. As the Mid-Century Modern movement started, the Deck House concept was born, combining natural materials, open spaces, and timeless design. Each home is a custom post-and-beam structure, known for its mahogany windows and trim, and signature tongue-and-groove cedar ceilings. Retro Metro was built in 1981, and its original blueprints displayed throughout the home reveal the balance of form and function that defines this architectural style.

Floor-to-ceiling windows and sliding doors open to sweeping mountain views, both near and far. Each season brings a new landscape, rolling fields, forested slopes, and the ever-changing colors of Western North Carolina. From the deck, you’ll often spot deer grazing or racing through the meadows as the sun sets behind the lavender hills.
